| MATERIALS AND
TECHNICAL INFORMATION OF FINE LEATHER GLOVES
Leathers:
Ethiopian hair sheep
South-American Peccary – wild pig
Finnish reindeer, deer and elk
Linings:
100% silk: the material weighs 105/m2, which is
nearly three times heavier as used by our competitors. Therefore
Sauso gloves with real silk are warm and luxurious.
Artificial silk: (polyamide)-linings
used in only two of our basic models
100% wool: a very comfortable,
luxurious and warm lining
100% cashmere
70% cashmere / 15% silk / 15% wool:
luxurious and warm, yet a strong lining rabbit
slink lambskin / curly
Threads: The threads are very strong
polyester with three fibres filaments, which makes them flexible.
Selection of Leather: Fine leather
gloves can only be made from leathers, which have the following
qualities:
They have to be very strong but thin, elastic, soft and they have
to have a beautiful shine.
Hair sheep has always been one of the best materials for fine leather
gloves.
This material can be found only near the Equator.
That means that the majority of the sheep in the world are wool
sheep, which are too loose and weak for gloves but are cheaper and
easier to dye. Therefore, we advise you to make sure when buying
fine leather gloves, the material is really hair sheep.
Ethopian Hair Sheep: The basic
leather used by Sauso for decades is the ETHIOPIAN HAIR SHEEP which
is the best available origin of hair sheep; it's also the most difficult
to dye and work with.
We purchase the hair sheep from tanneries which
are specialized in this kind of leather and combine the strengths
of each tannery, e.g. certain colours, finishing techniques etc.
Peccary Wild Pig: PECCARY is a
wild pig from South-America and it's the most luxurious and famous
material for gloves. There are not many companies in the world that
can work with this material. Peccary skins are very expensive and
only a rather small part of the skins are useable for gloves where
as major parts are full of defects. This requires great skills of
the cutters and only the nicely cutted parts can be used for gloves.
Native Americans hunt wild pigs because for meat consumption. Therefore,
the leather is only a secondary by-product.
In order to protect the species from poaching CITES
(Geneva) controls the trade of Peccary-Pigs. You can get a CITES-permit
to export peccary only from Peru; the other countries around Amazon
have lost their trade permits because of poaching.
The Lappish Reindeer:
THE LAPPISH REINDEER (Finland) is something special. It's thin but
very durable and produces the most beautiful suede (available in
many colours). It's available also as nappa. REINDEER
SUEDE is remarkably strong and has fabulous shades of colour.
Especially in unlined gloves reindeer suede feels very comfortable.
It is a shame that the glove industry does not realize the potential
of this high quality material, which we consider to be as good as
peccary, even though these two materials are very unlike each other.
Finnish Deer and Elk:
A very interesting new material is FINNISH DEER skin which is very
comfortable, soft and durable at the same time. Like peccary it's
the best for unlined gloves.
A similar material is FINNISH ELK which is similar as deer but more
exotic.
Important!
Fine glove leather cannot be retreated like bag-, garment- or footwear
leathers. Therefore there can be differences of shades even in the
same colour. In leather there can always be found some natural flaws,
so it is acceptable to have some of these distinguishing marks of
leather in our products.
We like to emphasize that all
the leathers we use, are DRUMDYED. This means that the leathers
are very COLORFAST (unlike many of the leathers from cheaper gloves).
Furthermore all the leathers
we use are manufactured with CHEMICALS which fully comply with European
directives, where the laws on consumer and environment protection
are very strict. Whereas in the other part of the world these forbidden
toxic chemicals are freely used every day. This all means MORE SAFETY
to our CUSTOMERS; a point which is very important to us.
